Tiger Woods...Who Cares

Why is it that everyone in the world is talking about Tiger Woods. Is his disfunctional marriage any more or less important than our own? I often wonder if people spent half as much time volunteering for community organizations and helping each other as they did gossiping, texting and calling each other to spread the misfortunes of others...where would this country be. Personally I could care less about Woods, Brittany Spears, Charlie Sheen or any of the other misfits plaguing our celebrity field today.

Let's take a moment to review our own value to our communites. Why not volunteer at your local church or rescue mission. There are bound to be people there that you can gossip with while your dishing up a holiday dinner for the less fortunate.

What about a National Do Not Mail List?

The Federal Government has instituted the National Do Not Call List so we can have a reprieve from unwanted telephone solicitations.  If you haven't already signed up, here is your chance.  All you have to do is visit the National Do Not Call Registry website and register your telephone numbers.  Telemarketers are required by law to remove your telephone numbers from their calling lists if your number is registered.  That was easy!

But what about junk mail?  According to the Ohio EPA Office of Compliance Assistance and Pollution Prevention “Each year, 100 million trees are used to produce junk mail; 250,000 homes could be heated with one day's supply of junk mail; and Americans receive almost 4 million tons of junk mail every year.”

Wouldn't we all benefit from a national Do Not Mail registry?  Marketers would not send mail to those who have no interest in receiving it.  Environmentally conscious mail recipients wouldn't have to recycle ridiculous amounts of mail every day.  For those who don’t bother to recycle, our garbage dumps would not be filled with a shameful amount of wasted paper.
